How PNG changed my life.

This past September, I had the privilege of serving in Papua New Guinea aboard the YWAM Liberty, a mercy ship that brings medical care to remote communities along the Rai Coast in Madang Province. Through this work, we carry the message of the gospel in tangible ways by being the hands and feet of Jesus. We provide medical clinics, Bible distribution, and practical care that brings real hope.
YWAM Montana and the Liberty have partnered together to see 33 Bible translations started in just three years. Papua New Guinea has more languages than any other nation in the world, and we believe everyone deserves access to Scripture in their heart language. To help make this possible, we use oral Bible translation, recording Scripture audibly rather than relying solely on written text. This cuts years off the traditional translation process and makes God’s Word accessible to entire communities.
During my time on the ship, I stepped into the role of housekeeping manager, which gave me the opportunity to work closely with and disciple our PNG crew. I had the joy of leading three incredible staff members, Rennah Hoswin and Chris, each of whom heard Jesus’ call, left their families, and said yes to missions. Walking alongside them was one of the most meaningful parts of my time in PNG.
From praying together every morning to laughing together at the end of long days, one moment in particular stands out. While docked near the village of Bangu, Chris and I were talking story, which is Tok Pisin for getting to know each other, over a Coke. He shared his deep desire to serve as a missionary in Samoa but admitted he was waiting to hear back about his passport application. We prayed together and asked God to open the door.
Less than a week later, Chris came to me beaming. His passport had been approved and was already waiting for him back at base. Watching his faith come alive in that moment strengthened both of us. From that day forward, his dream shifted from hopeful prayer to real preparation for long term missions in Samoa.

Looking back on my time in PNG, I sit in awe of the deep formation the Lord did in me during my time aboard the ship. In both the good days and the hard times, God proved His faithfulness and goodness. I can now say with confidence that God is good and that He loves me in depths I am only beginning to understand.
I cannot pinpoint a single scene or moment that unlocked this transformation. Instead, it was the culmination of days and weeks spent with Him, working and talking with greater dependence.
Please pray for the following:
That God would continue the formation He began in me while I was in PNG.
That God would continue to develop a passion in me for PNG and its people.
That God would continue to lead and guide me in the days and weeks to come
Enjoy some shots from PNG.
